Everyone has their own tastes and style preferences when choosing a WordPress theme for their business or blog. There are a lot of features in WordPress themes I love and then there are a lot features I just loathe. Again, this is just my personal preferences.
Some things I don’t like are:
1. Sliders
Sliders are everywhere! I admit they have their place but I don’t like them. I feel like they take up too much valuable space. Plus you have to keep the graphics in the sliders updated. It’s just one more thing to add to my to-do list and I like to keep that as short as possible. 🙂
2. Graphic Heavy
In my opinion a lot of designers/developers tend to use graphics when they could accomplish the same thing with CSS. Graphics make a site load slower. Oh and I especially despise larger header/logo graphics! I don’t want to have to scroll down the page to get to any meaningful content.
3. Poorly Coded & Commented
If a theme is poorly coded it is probably going to run slowly too. And if it isn’t commented it makes it a little harder to make changes or customize the theme for a client.
Features I love are:
1. Responsive
We live in a mobile world and sites need to be functional on mobile devices. Responsive themes make this so simple!
2. Full page and landing page templates
I love to have a choice of page templates. For me a full page and landing page templates are a must have! Others are nice but not mandatory.
3. Focus on content
If you have a website or blog you have information to share. I want a theme that is going to focus on that information, not ads, headers, optin boxes, etc.
What I really want to know is what features do you like or don’t like to see in a WordPress theme? Do you like your front page to have a layout different then your blog page? Do you like a lot of colors or graphics? Tell me everything!
